As a resident of Lawrence, Attorney Richard Rodriguez is committed to the city and its surrounding areas in the Merrimack Valley. He is committed to community service and works to improve lives in Lawrence by practicing law in the community in which he lives and loves.  Attorney Rodriguez is an advocate for people suffering from disabilities and as such he accepted an appointment in 2014 by Mayor Daniel Rivera as a Commissioner with the Lawrence Commission on Disability. His peers elected him as Chairman of the Commission placing Attorney Rodriguez in charge of coordinating and carrying out programs designed to address issues concerning persons with disabilities, as well as researching local issues and needs of the disability community. Attorney Rodriguez also serves as an advisory board member with Asperger Works, Inc.; a 501(C)(3) organization assisting people with Aspergers to stay employed and to advance in their careers.

Previously, in 2002 after having served as the program’s acting director on a volunteer basis, Lawrence Mayor Michael J. Sullivan appointed Attorney Rodriguez as a full-time program director assigned to the Lawrence Police Department managing a United States Department of Justice community-crime prevention initiative.  As stated in a local newspaper: For more than a year, Richard Rodriguez has voluntarily supervised the federally funded Weed & Seed program he helped established to improve the maligned and poverty-ridden neighborhoods of District C… The program will funnel more than $1 million in crime-prevention and community-revitalization money into District C over the next four years.

Attorney Rodriguez has a long history of providing legal services to Lawrence  residents and supporting local organizations in need of his legal expertise, whether it is pro bono (no charge) or at a reduced cost. Attorney Rodriguez has also received numerous awards/ recognitions for his commitment and dedication to public service.

The contribution and work of Attorney Rodriguez can be demonstrated through a statement made by the Lawtown Boxing Gym, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization serving youths in Lawrence as an alternative to crime.  The president of this organization made the following statement to the Puerto Rican Political Action Coalition’s’ Facebook:

The board of Directors of Lawtown Boxing Gym would like to congratulate Attorney Richard Rodriguez for his appointment as Commissioner to the Commission on Disabilities. Richard has been our legal consultant since the beginning of this youth program and thanks to his legal expertise in non-profit organizations we were in a short period of time recognized as a 501© (3) on the first try without any course action for corrections. We are grateful to Richard for his pro bono {no charge} legal services provided to us for the benefit of our youth in Lawrence.  His knowledge of the city’s needs and his knowledge of the law would make him an asset to this commission. Thanks Mayor Daniel Rivera and the Lawrence City Council for their wisdom to appoint Attorney Richard Rodriguez to the Commission. - - Mr. Edwin Candelario Sr. President
